Action learning for inclusive education – ALFIE

Summary

On this outstanding teaching learning and assessment (OTLA) project from 2016/17, Gloucestershire College worked with National Star, a specialist further education residential college for students with learning difficulties, profound physical disabilities and those with additional needs who are preparing for work. The aims of the project were to support teachers to undertake action research in order to improve their practice; to focus on developing specialist pedagogies for use with people with additional learning needs and to create an updateable resource for practitioners across the further education (FE) sector. The new web portal, ALFIE, offers downloadable materials and a searchable library of action research resources about inclusive practice. Learners contributed fully to the research, developing their skills and knowledge in the process. Challenges included delivering the project and gathering quantitative data within the timeframe. Qualitative evidence, available via the website, includes videos of filmed learner and tutor interviews about the research.
