Paving the way to Level 6 — Bedford College

Summary

Bedford and Central Bedfordshire colleges Outstanding Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (OTLA 3) project in 2017/19 explored ways to better prepare learners for higher education courses at local universities and colleges and facilitate progression to Level 6 study.  They found university lecturers had a strong preference for Socratic questioning, dialogical co-construction, and collaboration over more didactic approaches to teaching, so the project used flipped learning and seminar study as their teaching and learning intervention. They found that earners improved their critical thinking, argument structure, use of English, analysis, discussion reading, and identification, especially those learners who started with the lowest grades.
